The Plan

This is Work in Progress, the blog I'm starting to get some writing out into the world sooner rather than later. Really it's to get it out there at all– later becoming never before long. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, I'm waking up and writing at least 250 words about something. I'm drafting and revising the rest of the week, and I'm posting all three drafts by Sunday evening. So, that's three short essays, 250-750 words each, every week.

I write about music, film, and literature. I write creative nonfiction, lyrical essays about how we move through this world and this moment. I'm a lapsed academic trained to write about American culture, gender, and class. And I still tend to see the world through the lenses offered by that training.

I'll follow an academic term, writing for the 15 or so weeks of the fall semester, then the same for the spring. I'll take summers off to revise some of the Work in Progress drafts for submission to literary and academic journals. Please let me know which ones you think might deserve a little more room, a little more development.

As I'm starting things up at the end of the spring, the start of summer break, I'll be running a five-week summer term to get the blog up, the kinks somewhat straightened out, and some representative writing up for the world to consider. In the meantime, you can subscribe if you'd like to stay up to date and receive emails when new work is published.
